The nine works shown here are images inspired by what Curtis experienced through Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). Curtis has used NLP as a means to deepen her understanding of self. The paintings are all self portraits representing various stages of understanding.
Paintings one through four illustrate concepts like needing control, making judgments, feeling out of control, addiction and depression. Painting five is the transitional piece moving toward new thinking. Paintings six through nine are the new places she wishes to explore. Illustrating such concepts as enjoyment of the moment, looking for new answers, connection with others and reaping the benefits from “open doors”. The transition is marked in the changes in the portrait and the freer painting style as the series progressed.
